Restrictions scheduled overnight Monday on I-19 at Ajo Way
Travel restrictions will be in effect on northbound Interstate 19 overnight starting late Monday (April 11) to allow the Arizona Department of Transportation to begin work installing concrete barrier for drainage work as part of a project to replace the traffic interchange at I-19 and Ajo Way in Tucson.
The work will require the closure of the northbound exit from I-19 at Ajo Way (Exit 99) from 11 p.m.Monday until approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday (April 12). During this ramp closure, northbound I-19 motorists can exit at Irvington Road (Exit 98) and use local streets to access eastbound or westbound Ajo Way.
The right lane of northbound I-19 approaching the Ajo Way exit also will be closed during this work.
The work is part of a $41 million improvement project to replace the traffic interchange at I-19 and Ajo Way, also known as State Route 86, and widen Ajo Way in the project area.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
