UPDATE: Paving work on eastbound I-10 ramps at Mescal/J-Six delayed
Equipment issues have delayed paving work originally scheduled for today at the Interstate 10 ramps at the Mescal Road/J-Six Ranch exit in Cochise County, requiring eastbound ramp closures on Wednesday (April 13).
The eastbound I-10 on- and off-ramps at Exit 297 will be closed from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday to complete the paving work. During this restriction, motorists can use westbound I-10 to go to Empirita Road (Exit 292) and return to eastbound I-10.
As a result of the delay, the following restrictions are scheduled on I-10 between Tucson and Benson:
- On Thursday (April 14), crews will pave the Mescal Road/J-Six Ranch Road bridge over I-10 from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. During this work, alternating lane closures will be in effect with flaggers directing traffic through the restricted area.
- On Friday (April 15), the westbound I-10 on- and off-ramps at Empirita Road (Exit 292) will be closed for paving from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. During this restriction, motorists can use eastbound I-10 to travel to Mescal Road/J-Six Ranch to return to westbound I-10.
- Closure of the eastbound I-10 on- and off-ramps at Empirita Road (Exit 292) for paving will be on Monday (April 18) from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. During this restriction, motorists can use westbound I-10 to travel to Marsh Station Road (Exit 291) and return to eastbound I-10.
The work is part of a $15.1 million project to improve approximately 17 miles of I-10 in both directions between Tucson and Benson and replace the westbound I-10 bridge spanning Davidson Canyon, located 20 miles east of Tucson.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
