ON THIS DAY

The very first hospital in America opened on this date in 1752, in Philadelphia. W.C. Fields once said in an interview that his headstone was going to say, "All things considered, I'd rather be here than Philadelphia." He never made arrangements. When asked, "Do you have health insurance?" People would reply, "But it hasn't been invented yet!"

In 1858, a French girl claims she saw a vision of the Virgin Mary near Lourdes. She saw the Madonna near Lourdes and then, years later, Madonna would have a daughter named Lourdes. Weird.

On this date in 1942, the very first "Archie" comic book debuted.
73 years later, he's still in high school. Slow learner.

In 1960, Jack Paar walked off his own TV show. Seems silly to take a car from the desk to his dressing room. No, I don't want to make radio history, but thanks for the suggestion.

On this date in 1978, President Carter became the first president to ever ride in a Boeing 747. So see, he did have an accomplishment!

In 1993, President Clinton appointed Miami prosecutor Janet Reno to be the nation's first female attorney general. Wait a minute. He was female?
