Work to narrow Esperanza Boulevard median to continue into mid-December

Motorists in Green Valley will encounter lane closures on Esperanza Boulevard between Abrego and La CaƱada drives until mid-December while the Arizona Department of Transportation continues a project to construct multi-use lanes.

The left lanes of Esperanza Boulevard will be closed in both directions during work to narrow the width of a roadway median and then pave the travel lanes.

The lanes are scheduled to remain closed through Friday (Dec. 11), then remain open until early January 2016 when final striping work is scheduled to be done.

The $262,000 project will construct multi-use lanes to accommodate bicycles, add continuous sidewalks that meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act on both sides of Esperanza Boulevard and replace existing roadway signing.

The federally funded project was made possible by a grant to Pima County and is expected to be complete by January 2016.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
