TODAY IS

It's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day -- a federal holiday.

Emma Lee Bunton turns 43 today. She was Baby Spice of the Spice Girls. Sounds like an after shave for infants. Interesting -- nobody could ever put her in a corner.

Former NBA player Detlef Schrempf, whose name always sounded like a seafood dish to me (or something from a German happy hour menu), turns 56.

Geena Davis turns 63 today. At 6-foot tall, that's almost a decade a foot. Like I always say, "It's better to have loved a short girl and lost than never to have loved a tall."

Singer Billy Ocean is 69 today. His 80s hits included "Caribbean Queen" and "When the going gets tough, the tough get going."

He was quite the big deal back in the 1980s, but now the tide has gone out for Ocean.

Weird when the 80s singers start hitting their 60's. Of course, not as weird as the 60s singers hitting their 80s.

As for his career, that ship has sailed.

Golfer Jack Nicklaus, "The Golden Bear," turns 79 today... but he's writing down a 70. He doesn't play much golf these days... just putts around.

Operatic tenor Placido Domingo sings his way to 78 today.
