ON THIS DAY
It's said that it was on this date back in 2348 BC that the huge flood ended... allowing Noah and his family to finally leave the ark. Pity the poor family member who was the first to suggest they go to the zoo.
On this date in 1776, British troops capture Fort Washington during the American Revolution. I'm no American historian, but I believe Fort was George's brother.

In 1885, Canadian rebel Louis Riel was executed for high treason... but, of course, being in Canada, in the nicest way possible.

On this date in 1901, three race cars broke through the 60mph "barrier" in the same race at Brooklyn's Ocean Parkway. The next time I get on the freeway here during rush hour, I'll be jealous. For the record, all three pizzas arrived piping hot!

In 1907, Oklahoma became our 44th state. How did we wait that long to make something in the middle of the country a state? Like, we were thinking about it? We weren't sure if it was going to work out?

On this date in 1914, the 12 Federal Reserve Banks opened... one for each day of Christmas.
In 1926, Ohio State University named a Holstein cow as their homecoming queen. She was much nicer than the pig the previous year. Of course, the big question: where the hell do you pin on the corsage?

On this date in 1965, plans were announced to build a place called "Disney World." Back then, when you played on the east coast and won a championship, as soon as the game was over the announcer would say, "Now what are you going to do?" and the players would have to respond, "I'm going to... have to wait!"

We're past the mid-way point of November already...
Former figure skater Oskana Baul, whose name always reminded me of a sobriety test, turns 38 today. She was quite the figure skater in her time. She's one of the few people with a name that sounds better backwards, than forwards: Luab Anasko. OK, it's a tie.

Maggie Gyllenhaal also turns 38 today. You've seen her in lots of movies, (Mona Lisa Smile, The Dark Knight) but she remains best known as being Jake's older sister.

Former Cosby kid, Lisa Bonet, turns 48 today. She appears to be one of the few women ever to work with Cosby that hasn't filed a charge yet. Just to show you how far out she was, Lisa was once married Lenny Kravitz. She has since returned to her home planet.

Marg Helgenberger, formerly of "CSI," is 57 according to the forensics lab.

David Leisure turns 65 today. If you want to see him in his glory days, Google "Joe Isuzu."

National Fast Food Day -- Fast food prices are getting to be almost as expensive as those "sit down" places but as prices rise it seems that the food seems to get cold quicker!
