ON THIS DAY

On this date in 1859, Jules Leotard introduced his flying trapeze act wearing tights.
  • Sounds like the same kind of inspirational day like when Bob Kleenex first blew his nose.
  • At first, people were saying "Look at those guys wearing the Jules" and they decided Leotards sounded better.
  • It was much easier to perform his stunts in those, than when wearing looses.
  • They were quite the swingers. He flew through the air with the greatest of ease. I feel a song coming on.

In 1892, William "Pudge" Heffelfinger became the first professional football player, when he was given $25 and a cash bonus of$500.
  • Oh, and don't forget the beer endorsement contract.
  • Plus, he received a promise that when Nike's were invented, he'd get an endorsement deal.
  • Today, that would even pay for their shoes. Or, these days, that's the tip for the valet and lunch.
  • Not to play for a team, but to not play for the other team.

On this date in 1933, a professional football game was played on a Sunday for the first time. Until then, it had been illegal to play on Sunday. There are some ______ fans who wish that were still true.
It was also on this date in 1933 that the first picture of "Nessie" -- the famous Loch Ness monster -- was taken. You know, in time for the Christmas cards. I believe it was at the JC Penney studio.
On this date in 1946, the very first artificial snow was created at a ski area. It resulted in the first-ever imitation broken leg.

TODAY IS
Time to get out and hit those After Veterans Day Sales.

Anne Hathaway celebrates her 33rd birthday today. Seems like she's been acting for 33 years... But she's so good, she can act any age.

Ryan Gosling turns 35 today. No he won't dance for you. At what age does he become Ryan Goose?

Disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding turns 45 today. She somehow managed to give White Trash a bad name. It was like a bad game of Clue -- she did it with the lead pipe... against Nancy Kerrigan... in the knees.

Megan Mullally turns 57. She was a big hit in "Will and Grace" as Karen, then went on to host her own canceled talk show. She now plays Tammy on "Parks and Recreation." Hey, AARP, good luck... she's all yours!
