UPDATE: SR 189 port of entry pedestrian underpass work in Nogales

Motorists traveling on State Route 189 (Mariposa Road) at the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales should be aware of the following traffic restrictions as the Arizona Department of Transportation begins building a new under-crossing along SR 189. The facility will allow pedestrians to safely travel to and from the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales.

On Thursday (Nov. 19) access to State Port Drive at State Route 189 will be closed early in the morning beginning at 12 a.m. (instead of Tuesday (Nov. 17) as previously reported).

Beginning 6 a.m. on Thursday (Nov. 19):
    • Northbound State Route 189 will be narrowed to one lane between State Port Drive and Port Access Drive for construction of the northern half of the under-crossing.
    • Access to Port Access Drive from State Route 189 will be provided via the intersection of State Port Drive.

The under-crossing will consist of a 356-foot-long, 10-by-10 concrete box culvert on the east side of SR 189 that will include ventilation structures and lighting. Other improvements include new sidewalks, traffic signals and storm drain improvements.

The $3.3 million improvement project is expected to be completed this winter.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned roadway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
