30 YEARS OLD, THEN AND NOW

Men's Health magazine compares the 30-year-old man from 1989 with today's 30-year-old guy:

Family - The average age of a man when he first gets married:
1989 - 25.9 years and had his first kid at 29.4 years
2019 - 29.5 years and had his first kid at 31.1 years

Working
1989 - 82 percent were civilian employed, 2 percent in the armed forces, 8 percent unemployed, and 8 percent not in the labor force
2019 - 79 percent were civilian employed, 1 percent in the armed forces, 5 percent unemployed, and 15 percent not in the labor force.

Military service - Veteran status among men between the ages of 21 and 36:
1989 - 15 percent
2019 - 4 percent

Finances - Median weekly earnings of men ages 25 to 3:
1989 - $420 a week (when adjust for inflation that would be $867.60)
2019 - $821 a week

Health - Men ages 30 to 39 are 15.9 percent heavier today than 30 years ago:
1989 - 14.1 percent of men between the ages of 20 to 34 were obese
2019 - 34.8 percent of men between the ages of 20 to 39 are obese

1989 - 71.4 years was the life expectancy of a man
2019 - 76.1 years is the life expectancy of a man today

1989 - 2,310 calories a day was the average consumed by men ages 30 to 39
2019 - 2,687 calories a day is the average consumed by men ages 30 to 39 today
